Cultivating Community through Mutual Learning
Let us start the New Year with Learning New Ways of exchanging solar values
We created a learning program for all stakeholders who want to become token holders in what they value: solar power. Younergy Crypto provides a protocol of participation - there may be many more, and they will be interconnective.
Younergy has over 1500 solar installations in Switzerland, and they are scaling across Europe starting with Portugal, Spain, and Germany. In addition to traditional ways of solar finance, we set out to create the web3-native Younergy Crypto. The MVP with which you can mint carbon value from existing solar projects is live! Developers and initial governors are testing the YC token emission and rewards distribution protocol as I am writing this, and getting ready for the smart contract security audits.
Following, maybe the most important, TE ethical principle:
Enable informed participation.
Younergy Crypto School served 127 learners between January 10 & March 14, 2023. If you missed, you can watch:
the recordings of Web3 Basics and ReFi
Join the discourse: If you want to learn more or help co-create the next season of Younergy Crypto School
we will start the mutual learning with an iterative course, in which you learn both the very basics of self-sovereign participation (i - beginner level) as well as open R&D question in the budding field of ReFi - regenerative finance using web3 protocols and principles (ii - intermediate level).
The first edition will be geared towards Gnosis Chain Ecosystem, in which we are deploying the first versions of the YC smart contracts. The next editions of the course could cover Celo, Polygon, and potentially NEAR and other carbon-negative chain ecosystems. These are blockchain networks with an ecosystem which is not only committed to reduce their carbon footprint, but also go beyond in offsetting carbon emissions which they cannot reduce, by either directly funding positive impact projects or support launch and healthy growth of token networks that have social and environmental benefits encoded into their cyptoeconomics.
We will look into values that can be encoded into token smart contracts: “What’s in a token?” and incentive mechanism design that enables coordination around these values, i.e. tokens. The beginner level session will come to a close by looking into “money legos” on the above chains, the DEXes and DeFi protocols and aggregators, which you can connect to in a self-sovereign manner.
It’s ReFi when the yield comes from regeneration.
In the intermediate level session (a week after the beginners’ session), we will dig deeper into what is currently possible in ReFi: digital, distributed monitoring, reporting, validation of the positive impact that goes beyond the financial dimension. We will immediately see the current R&D needs in this space, and why we need high-trust environments to start these protocols today. We will layout the ReFi ecosystems’ current experimental branches, and what YC is contributing in order to enable transparent, community validation of the data-driven methods we chose to measure impact of solar power in a time- and location-based manner.
The YC token model creates incentives to both coordinate around the environmental (and in the not so distant future also social) values of solar power as well as closing the technological and cultural gap through R&D, ongoing experimentation, and artful participation. Co-creation of the token model with early adopters is the foundation of ethical design in participatory value networks.
And it starts with a learning community.
